The Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Association (MME), in cooperation with the Department of Conservation Zoology and Wildlife Management of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Sciences and Environmental Management of the University of Debrecen, has compiled an electronic resource and data collection form for the survey of nest colonies of the urban crow.

According to a statement sent to MTI by the MME on Tuesday, the aim of the program is to allow local governments and the public to participate for the first time in learning the exact location and number of inland colonies as part of the national crow population surveys taking place in 2026, which are repeated every ten years. They reminded that the increasing number of settlement nesting sites of the species is creating new and new conflict situations among the affected population and local governments, and therefore the MME prepared a detailed information website in August 2025 in order to draw attention to the fact that nest removals applied by local governments due to public pressure not only do not solve the situation, but also significantly worsen it. As stated in the supporting material and on the website, the survey of both settlement and rural nesting sites can be most effectively carried out between March 25 and April 10 – due to the start of nest construction in early March and the intensification of leafing of trees in the first third of April. As they wrote, the incoming data will be compiled by the staff of the MME Monitoring Center, and after processing, the information will be included in the continuously updated national distribution map of the species. In addition, the results may serve to mitigate and resolve human-crow conflicts in the future – they emphasized.
