The Nébih examined the provision of data on the use of antibiotics by the colonies
During the autumn, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) examined the fulfillment of the reporting obligation of the animal farms regarding the use of antibiotics. During the investigation, which involves both data requests and on-site inspections, proceedings are initiated in 8 cases, and general experience is that some of the animal keepers and veterinarians are still not aware of the details of the regulation.

The fight against antimicrobial resistance and the responsible use of medicines are served by the regulation that has been in effect since the end of January, according to which the aggregated data of antibiotics used in food-producing animals must be reported monthly in the Nébih system. During the fall, Nébih’s specialists conducted a complex target inspection to check whether the veterinarians providing the animal farms fulfill their reporting obligations. In the first phase of the test series, 61 attending veterinarians were asked to provide a statement on why data was not recorded in the system. It is reassuring that proceedings have to be initiated in only three cases due to failure to provide data, and no use was made in the other farms.
In October, Nébih’s staff conducted on-site inspections with detailed professional information on a total of 22 – 11 pig farms and 11 cattle farms – in 13 counties.
In the course of this, proceedings were initiated in a total of 5 cases due to willful failure to fulfill obligations. The goal check provided an opportunity to discuss the users’ comments and clarify their questions. For example, that in all cases the treating veterinarian or his representative is responsible for recording the data. The system development that will be implemented in the near future will serve as a solution to a significant part of the further suggestions of animal keepers and their veterinarians. Among other things, the ability to copy already submitted reports makes data provision faster and simpler. In addition to the specific topics that arose during the campaign, those concerned can continuously send their questions and suggestions to Nébih at the thematic e-mail address e-antibiotikum@nebih.gov.hu.
The information collected only at the national level this year must be forwarded to the European Union for the year 2023. For this reason, in addition to its attention-grabbing and helpful communication activities, Nébih will regularly examine the obligation fulfillment.
