Coffee cuts your chance of getting pregnant
The fact that coffee effects fertility in women has been known for some time, but now scientists have discovered why.
Boffins from the University of Nevada in the US have found that caffeine does impair the transport of eggs from the ovaries to the womb.
Previous research had found that drinking more than four cups of coffee a day could cut the chance of conceiving by a quarter.
The new investigation has found that coffee stops the fallopian tubes contracting. It’s the fallopian tubes that get the eggs from your ovaries to your womb.
“This finding provides an intriguing explanation as to why women with high caffeine consumption often take longer to conceive than women who don’t consume caffeine,” said Sean Ward, who led the study, published in the British Journal of Pharmacology.
