We have to pay slightly more for peaches than last year
According to Eurostat data, the peach and nectarine harvest increased to 21.8 thousand tons (+90 percent) in 2022. According to the publication of the Agrárközgazdasági Intézet Informative report on summer agricultural work, peach picking was at 31.3 percent on July 16, 2023, the average yield was around 5.6 tons/hectare, which is 15 percent more than last year’s yield per hectare.
According to KSH data, Hungary’s peach and nectarine foreign trade balance was negative in 2022: imports were 11.4 thousand tons, exports were 1.23 thousand tons. In the first five months of this year, compared to the same period last year, 25 percent less (559.1 tons) of nectarines and peaches arrived in the country. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of peaches on the Budapest Wholesale Market was 10 percent higher (HUF 766/kilogram) 25–32 2023. per week than a year earlier. The wholesale price of imported peaches (HUF 1,371/kilogram) increased by 3 percent 17–32 2023. per week compared to the same period of the previous year.
