With a minimal decrease, Hungarian guests arrived in Croatia in almost the same number as last year until mid-October – the director of the Croatian National Tourist Board in Hungary announced at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.

Ivana Herceg said: by mid-October, a total of 754 thousand Hungarian tourists spent 3.68 million nights in Croatia. This is a one percent decrease in the number of guests and a 3.5 percent decrease in guest nights compared to the same period in the record year 2024.

According to the tourism expert

These data show that Croatia remains a stable destination for Hungarians. Especially in light of the fact that Croatia has recorded extremely dynamic growth in the previous two years, with nearly 20 percent growth in 2023 and a further 10 percent in 2024.

He added: based on the data, the number of Hungarians decreased the most in the summer months – for example, by 6 percent in August – while pre-season interest in the Adriatic state increased significantly. In April, 40 percent more Hungarians traveled to the country, and in June, 12 percent more.

Hungarian guests spent an average of 4.9 nights in Croatia, hotels and campsites maintained their previous results, but there were 6 percent fewer Hungarian tourists in private accommodations. For them, the most visited regions are still Kvarner, Istria, Zadar, Split and Sibenik, and according to the data broken down by settlement, Crikvenica, Rovinj, Vir, Porec and Opatija were the most popular among Hungarians in that order.

Ivana Herceg recalled that the almost 90-kilometer section of the A5 motorway from the Hungarian border to Osijek was recently opened, which reduced the travel time between Budapest and the Croatian city to two hours.

More than 60 percent of hotels in Croatia are now four or five-star, and their number has increased this year as well. In Pula, for example, the former barracks of the Monarchy were converted into a premium category hotel. The quality of Croatian hotels will be assessed by a new evaluation system from this year, with 10 hotels in the Adriatic country earning the maximum three Michelin keys – explained Ivana Herceg.

According to a previous statement by the Croatian Tourism Organization, nearly 790 thousand Hungarian tourists arrived in Croatia in 2024, and the number of guest nights reached 3.88 million.
