Watermelon crop can be similar to last year's
Despite the stormy weather of the recent days, this year's watermelon yield can be similar to last year's – told Mártonffy Béla, Chairman of the the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organisation and Product Board (FruitVeB) to MTI.
Mártonffy Béla told that the storms of the recent days – notably the hail – only affected the edge of the melon growing area of Békés county, no significant damage occurred. Due to the hail, the market release of the Hungarian watermelon is expected to delay one week, so instead of early July, watermelon will be available in the second half of next month. (MTI)
