The Tapolcai spring cave: an increasingly popular tourist destination near Lake Balaton
The Tapolca spring cave, which is one of the most famous natural attractions of the city of Tapolca, attracts more and more tourists every year. According to the HelloVidék article, more than 158,000 visitors visited this unique cave system last year. Visitors come not only from the southern and eastern shores of Lake Balaton, but also from almost all over the world to admire this special natural treasure.
However, the appeal of Tavasbarlang goes beyond Tapolca: it is an important tourist destination for the entire Balaton region. It also has a significant impact on local businesses from an economic point of view, since after discovering the cave, visitors also visit other attractions of the settlement, such as the popular Malom lake, which is among the TOP-5 most visited locations in the Balaton region. The appearance of tourists contributes to the increase in the income of local restaurants, museums and other service providers.
Tapolca also attracts those who want to relax with its thermal beach in the summer months. The settlement’s status as a health resort also increases its attractiveness: in 2014, the National Office of the Chief Medical Officer declared a part of Tapolca’s downtown a health resort. The spa includes the surroundings of Deák Jenő Hospital, Hunguest Hotel Pelion, Tavasbarlang and Malom lake.
The cave is one of the most visited in Hungary and a major tourist destination in Tapolca, which plays a significant role in boosting the local economy. During the winter period (from November to March), local educational institutions can visit the cave with a registration ticket, while full-time students and teachers can use a discounted admission all year round.
