Member States can decide over the authorization of genetically modified maize
Following the judgment of the European Court of Justice, the decision will be submitted to the Council of the European Union, ie. the national agricultural ministers will decide on whether to approve the authorization of the cultivation of the Pioneer 1507 GMO maize specie in the EU – The European Commission said on Wednesday.
The pest resistant Pioneer 1507 can be currently marketed but can not be grown in Europe. The committee also said that if the Member States in the Council will not reject the authorization, the Board shall automatically provide a 10-year production license. (MTI, Konsiczky Zoltán)
