The retail traffic in the neighborhood also dropped significantly
Retail sales in the Czech Republic fell by 8.8 percent year-on-year in August after a 7.9 percent drop in July, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Thursday in Prague.

The decline affects practically all sectors
The annual decline in Czech retail sales has been going on for the fourth month now, and the decline affects practically all sectors. The only exception is pharmacies – the statistics office pointed out.
In a monthly comparison, retail trade in the Czech Republic fell by 0.7 percent in August.
“In addition to food industry products, the fall in demand for other types of consumer goods also contributed to the annual decline in retail sales. The sale of fuels also fell, but to a lesser extent in August than in July.”
Jana Gotvaldová, director of the statistical office, told journalists.
The turnover of manufactured goods fell by 10.3 percent, fuel by 9.2 percent, and food by 6.6 percent in August. Internet sales, which had previously been rising rapidly, fell again in August, namely by 10.2 percent.
Spending on clothing and footwear fell by 15.1 percent, and household supplies by 13.3 percent. The demand for communication technology and computers decreased by 12.7 percent.
Among the general declines, pharmacies are an exception, the concept of which rose by 1.3 percent year-on-year in August. The turnover of drugstores has stagnated.
