Sziget faced a loss, organizing company still profitable
385 thousand people visited Sziget this year, which is more than last year but slightly below the previous record. This was the year with the strongest musical lineup, however the same applies to Swiss franc which had a negative impact on the ticket-buying mood. Sziget has come of age, and turned out to be one of the greatest and most well-known festivals of Europe, received a number of international professional awards and the professional press refers to it as the most international, versatile event without the shadow of doubt.
Visitors arrived to this year's Sziget from nearly fifty countries of six continents – now that the event has come of age, it has turned out to be one of the most important cultural and musical events of Europe. Musicians, visitors and experts of the international media all agree that this is the most versatile, colourful program-selection they have ever seen. Besides, they are very satisfied with the high quality of services and infrastructure, making Sziget outstanding and unique at the same time.
Sziget's budget has increased significantly this year, thanks to – among many other things – the land rent, all security improvements and last but not least the last-minute contract with Prince. Unfortunately, this increase – even though there were a few thousands more visitors than last year – could not be compensated by the revenue. The 19th Sziget turned out to be the most international, musically most powerful and eoomically weakest festival. Even though the festival – for the second time in the past one and a half decade – was a loss, next year's event, celebrating its 20th anniversary, is not in danger, since all other events organized by the team behind Sziget faced a significant growth. The profit made by those events surpasses the minus of Sziget, so the organizing company, Sziget Ltd will continue to be profitable.
