Seasonal candies: Hungarian still prefer high quality chocolate
In 2009, in spite of the recession,Hungarian customers payed more attention to quality when it comes to seasonal candies than ever before: they purchased twice as much candies made quality chocolate than cheap low-cocoa content items. Now 83 percent of the market is ruled by quality chocolate-made products.
Hungarians still have a sweet tooth: in the past one year, the average chocolate consumption per year was 3.5 kg per person, and most people opted for chocolate bars (1.1 kg per person in each category).
As a result of the recession, there is a decrease when it comes to the amount of chocolate sold (2009: 726 tons, 2008: 943 tons), and the same applies to the sales volume (2009:2.4 billion HUF, 2008: 2.7 billion HUF), but Hungarians still prefer high quality products as opposed to chea low cocoa-content items.
