Mutti processes more tomatoes despite extreme weather conditions
Tomato producer Mutti has processed 565,000 tonnes of tomatoes this year. Due to drought and rainfall, the harvest season lasted until the end of October. The company supported its farmers with a record amount of 7 million euros.
Despite extreme weather conditions, Italian tomato producer Mutti processed 565,000 tonnes of tomatoes this year, almost 10 per cent more than last year. The processing season lasted much longer than usual due to difficult weather conditions and extended until the end of October, according to the company. The season normally ends at the end of September.
“2024 was the most challenging year in the 30 years that I have been managing the company since 1994,” CEO Francesco Mutti explained in a press release. While persistent rainfall reduced yields in northern Italy, farmers in southern Italy struggled with a severe drought.
The Parma-based company supported farmer families: according to Mutti, it paid farmers a total of around 7 million euros, the highest amount ever in the company’s history.
In 2023, Mutti achieved a net turnover of 665 million euros and processed 525,000 tonnes of tomatoes. The company sells its products in 100 countries and export volumes exceeded sales volumes in Italy for the first time in 2023.
