Farmers in Székely can always count on the government’s help
No matter what happens, it is fundamental for us that every Hungarian is responsible for every Hungarian, we act in this spirit and help farmers who have found themselves in a difficult situation due to the Praijd mine disaster, said István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, on Friday, in Alsósófalva.

The Minister reminded that the Praijd mine disaster brought to the surface and strengthened the feeling of belonging, the desire to come together, and the desire to help. At the end of May, the flooded Korond stream flooded the mine, water flooded the passages, and a collapse occurred. The water trampled on what man had built over many centuries. Not only the walls of the mine collapsed, but also human destinies. The livelihoods of the people living here, the land and the crops were in danger, István Nagy emphasized. He added that in this situation it is particularly important that our brothers and sisters living here in Székelyföld can always count on the motherland, the Hungarian government. We are helping those farmers in Alsósófalv, whose land was dammed during the flood protection, not only with words, but also with deeds. As part of the Székelyföld Agrarian Solidarity Program, we handed over 300 bags of wheat to local producers, he added. The minister emphasized that as long as there is knowledge, as long as there is intention, as long as we are here for each other, there is always hope. The Ministry of Agriculture pays special attention to supporting foreign farmers to ensure their well-being in their homeland. With our initiatives, we reach more and more farmers in the Hungarian-populated areas of the Carpathian Basin every year. Our foreign scholarship and internship programs also provide opportunities for young people. And the Carpathian Basin Rural Economy Network is a real success story, István Nagy said.
