Street food stands its ground in spite of the energy crisis
The increased labor and raw material costs, as well as the skyrocketing energy prices, challenged the hospitality industry again this year. As a result of the market situation, prices increased by 30-40%, the profit margin decreased significantly, but street food remained on its feet. However, the difference in consumption habits between the eastern and western regions of the country was noticeable.

Street food is a crisis resistant sector
“The increasing sales trend characteristic of previous years stagnated due to higher prices. Despite the difficulties, the series of events closed a successful year, the latest data show an increase of about 10%”
– said Zoltán Horváth, the president of the Hungarian Street Food Association and the main organizer of the Food Truck Show, who hosted 350 catering events and 16 Food Truck Shows in 2022, which were visited by almost 500,000 guests.
“Buffet carts typically purchase raw materials from small factories and primary producers, whose prices have increased by 100-120%. The wages of the employees also increased by at least 50%, and in addition even the energy prices skyrocketed. The hosts could not avoid the drastic increase in the entry values, they raised 30-40% until the end of the season, and the guests’ wallets felt this”
– added Zoltán Horváth.
