Together for people in need

For SPAR Hungary social responsibility has always been one of the company priorities. The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service has been SPAR’s strategic charity partner for 16 years. One of their biggest joint projects was the ‘It is a joy to give’ donation collecting campaign from 14 to 19 December 2012. In 156 stores of the SPAR group 170,000kg of food was collected, from which the charity’s workers made 38,000 food parcels, which they managed to hand over to people in need before Christmas. SPAR Hungary also implemented a Facebook campaign from 6 to 23 December 2012: Facebook users could make donations by playing a special game, called virtual pig feeding. 1,000kg of meat was collected for the soup kitchens of the Maltese Charity in Kelta Street and in Páty. From the HUF 200 and 500 donation cards sold in 111 SPAR and INTERSPAR stores HUF 7,546,400 was collected for the charity organisation and will be used to make glasses, while the 1 forints after each SPAR shopping bag purchased added up to HUF 7,140,327 and will cover the costs of operating the charity’s ambulance car in Budapest.
