Johnnie Walker celebrates the women who shaped their destiny at the unique exhibition of the Hungarian National Museum
During its two-hundred-year history, the most important goal of the Johnnie Walker brand has become development and its support at the social level, with particular regard to women’s equality and equal opportunities, through the presentation of outstanding role models. As a next chapter of their responsibility program, with the support of Johnnie Walker, the Hungarian National Museum’s exhibition called The Hungarian Bride will open in December, which is intended to show the change in the role of women in a period of 500 years of Hungarian history. The exhibition presents the changing role of women in society, economy and culture through the animated stories of hundreds of women.
Women have played a decisive role in the history of Johnnie Walker: Elizabeth Walker, the founder’s wife, was the co-creator of the brand’s iconic whiskey, the current master distiller, dr. And Emma Walker made history by holding this important position for the first time as a woman. Women were decisive not only in the creation of the distillates, but also in their promotion: it was Doris Zinkeisen who created the brand’s first color advertisement in the 1920s, which placed the now iconic walking man at the center of London society. Without the work and contribution of women, Johnnie Walker could not have reached where it is now, so the brand continues to work to get the message to as many people as possible: we can only move forward if we provide every opportunity for women to be clearly visible leave a mark on the world.
Barely a quarter of Eastern European women drink whiskey. The fact that whiskey is a traditionally masculine drink is one of the many deep-rooted stereotypes that keep this drink category within social limits. Throughout its 200-year history, Johnnie Walker, the world’s leading whiskey brand, has always been a committed supporter of common social development. The Keep Walking Hungary initiative also supports this cause. Its aim is to inspire through the stories of individuals, while drawing attention to the importance of women’s social and economic empowerment. The initiative is driven by presenting examples that women, regardless of age and social status, can identify with, and from which they can draw strength.
