Beer tax kills pubs
Since September, three hundred British pubs had to be closed because of the rising taxes on beer, and this year five thousand jobs will terminated in Great Britain, as the beer slowly becomes not affordable – The Daily Telegraph writes.
The Association of Pub Owners have launched a campaign to force the parliament to renegotiate the taxation of beer, because the tax burden, that is higher than the annual inflation rate by two percent, puts their livelihood at risk.
Since 2008, the tax content of beer increased by 42 percent. The pubs are the traditional and important scenes of social life, with their extinction the local public life also suffers losses. Currently, an average of 12 pubs are closed every week in England. (Népszabadság Online)
