Laboratory tests by the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) have confirmed the presence of the grapevine flavescence pathogen in the Somló wine region. This means that nearly 70% of our domestic wine regions are affected by the disease that causes serious plant health damage. The authority draws the attention of grape growers to the fact that protection against the infection and its vector is of utmost importance!

Grapevine flavescence dorée (FD) has also reached Hungary’s smallest historical wine region, so 15 Hungarian wine regions are now affected by one of the most serious plant health diseases. Protection against the American grapevine cicada (Scaphoideus titanus), which is responsible for the spread of the pathogen, remains essential, as it is the only effective preventive measure against the disease, in addition to the purchase of healthy propagation material.

Experts draw the attention of grape growers to the fact that compliance with plant protection and plant health regulations is crucial for the protection of vineyards

There is no pesticide against the grapevine golden yellow phytoplasma disease (FD). Grapes can be protected by timely treatments against the American cicada. This is mandatory in all vineyards designated as demarcated areas by the authorities, as well as in all grape propagating material producing areas in the country. Control is also strongly recommended in all other grape-growing areas. Its spread can also be curbed by eradicating host plants. The FD disease does not pose a threat to human health, and the official measures do not affect the production and distribution of wine. The dosage and recommended dilution ratio of the preparations that can be used to control the American cicada, as well as the food and health withdrawal periods, can be found in the product’s license document.
