Siemens may sell stake in European venture with Fujitsu
German electronics giant Siemens AG may sell its stake in a European computer joint venture with Fujitsu Ltd.
The most
likely scenario is for Fujitsu to buy Siemens stake and turn the
joint venture into a subsidiary, but it is also possible that Siemens
could seek another company to take over its interest. A decision on
the 50-50 joint venture's future is likely this year.
The two firms established Fujitsu
Siemens Computers in Holland in October 1999 to consolidate their
European computer and server operations. In fiscal 2006, the joint
venture, which is a Fujitsu equity-method affiliate, rang up sales of
6.6 billion euros, and logged a net profit of 68 million euros.
Siemens is shrinking its computer
operations to focus resources on its core energy, healthcare and
industrial infrastructure businesses, the report said.
