Shein sues Temu
The legal battle in the world of e-commerce has taken another turn after Shein sued its rival Temut in the United States. According to a report by CNBC, Shein accuses Temu of stealing their designs and expanding the market through counterfeiting, intellectual property infringement, and fraud. The lawsuit was filed Monday in a federal court in Washington, D.C., as Shein itself faces similar allegations from other major brands such as Levi Strauss and H&M.
According to Shein, Temu encourages manufacturers to copy other brands’ designs and won’t remove those products from its platform even if the manufacturers admit to plagiarism. Also, according to Shein, Temu offers products in the US at such low prices that it results in a financial loss on each transaction, putting pressure on manufacturers to commit fraud and copycats.
Temu denied the allegations. According to a spokesperson for the company, Shein is “buried in a mountain of intellectual property lawsuits” and finds it outrageous that Shein is being accused of the very abuses for which they themselves have been sued.
