Samsung to showcase refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling technology at CES 2025
Samsung will be showcasing its latest refrigerators featuring AI Hybrid Cooling technology at CES® 2025, with global availability expected soon[2]. The new refrigerators feature AI Hybrid Cooling technology, which combines artificial intelligence with revolutionary cooling techniques to meet the needs of a wide range of modern households.
“With refrigerators operating 24 hours a day, we have placed great emphasis on developing a cooling system that can significantly improve energy efficiency,” said Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Group, Samsung’s Digital Appliances Business. “With the global introduction of AI Hybrid Cooling technology, we are demonstrating our commitment to technological innovation in home appliances. We will continue to introduce home appliances that use innovative technologies to make everyday life more convenient for users.”
Adaptive Hybrid Cooling for Optimal Energy Efficiency
AI Hybrid Cooling technology combines a high-efficiency compressor with a Peltier module[3], a semiconductor device that achieves cooling by utilizing the temperature change caused by electrical current. The introduction of the Peltier module allows the refrigerator to operate similarly to hybrid cars, combining two energy sources and using them in parallel only when necessary to effectively cool the refrigerator compartment.
For example, if the user loads the refrigerator with a large amount of food after shopping, or if there is a need to store warm food, or if it is a hot summer season and the appliance detects a significant cooling demand, the Peltier module will be activated in addition to the compressor. However, during normal use, it relies solely on the compressor to ensure optimal efficiency. During the process, the AI algorithm predicts temperature changes inside the refrigerator by assessing the current state of the refrigerator and adjusting the cooling mode accordingly.
The high-efficiency AI Inverter Compressor[4] promotes energy efficiency thanks to its advanced design that increases the radius of rotating parts. With 4.1 times greater inertia compared to Samsung’s conventional F3 compressor[5], it uses less energy and runs longer[6]. The compressor uses an AI algorithm to continuously optimize its speed[7].
