The Romanian Competition Council is not opposed to negotiations on a temporary reduction in the price of milk
The Romanian competition council is not opposed to processors and retailers agreeing on the extent of jointly agreed price discounts in order to temporarily reduce the price of milk, but at the same time it warns those concerned about the importance of complying with competition rules, the authority’s announcement on Friday revealed.
The news agency Agerpres, which presented the communique, recalled: at a meeting held on April 11 in the government headquarters, in the presence of Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, representatives of producers, processors, wholesalers and supermarket chains agreed to introduce voluntary price discounts of 7 lei per liter for a period of six months starting from May 1 ( HUF 535) in order to reduce the consumer price of milk offered for sale more expensively by at least 20 percent.
The agreement applies to milk of Romanian origin, and the price discount of at least 20 percent will be shared equally between the processors and the retailers (assuming a price reduction of at least 10 percent each).
