Puratos acquires Dawn Foods, combining the two companies’ complementary baking capabilities

For more than a century, both Puratos and Dawn Foods have built strong, trusted businesses with a passion for delivering high-quality products, inspiring inspiration and building strong partnerships in the baking industry. Founded in 1919 and 1920, the family-owned companies have grown on a long-term vision and a people-centered culture that continues to inspire their employees and customers today.  

Puratos and Dawn Foods are separate, yet complementary, companies. has developed complementary capabilities while serving bakeries, confectioners, retailers and food manufacturers by translating consumer trends into innovative ingredient solutions. 

Dawn Foods – a company operating in North America, Europe, the AMEAP region and Latin America – is widely known for its expertise in authentic American sweet baked goods and ingredient solutions that can be used in finished products such as donuts, muffins, cookies and brownies. Its innovation model is based on the development of product concepts, seasonal inspirations and solutions that help bakeries differentiate and optimize their offerings. Dawn Foods operates efficient, high-capacity manufacturing facilities that ensure quality and reliability, and has a strong distribution network – particularly in North America.  

Puratos complements this with its expertise in the baking, confectionery and chocolate industries, including fermentation, sourdough, seeds, classic confectionery products and the art of chocolate making. Its innovative approach is rooted in ingredient technology and long-term R&D, where food science is transformed into raw material solutions with a distinctive character in the market. Puratos operates technology-driven factories that enable high functionality and more personalized manufacturing, and serves its customers through a network of subsidiaries in 87 countries. 

This acquisition would combine the two companies’ complementary innovation activities: Dawn Foods’ finished product-driven creativity and Puratos’ R&D-driven ingredient technology – and complement each other’s manufacturing models: Dawn Foods’ high-volume, standardized manufacturing with Puratos’ more flexible, customized manufacturing. It would also connect Dawn Foods’ extensive North American distribution network with Puratos’ international subsidiaries. 

The combined capabilities would allow Puratos to better serve customers who increasingly demand efficient, high-volume production and technology-driven solutions – across a broader range of bakery and confectionery finished products than Puratos or Dawn Foods could provide on their own. This collaboration would also strengthen the long-term commitment to innovation, food science, and the development of the two companies’ professionals and capabilities.
