Waiting for the grilling season
International trends in the poultry and garden product markets are monitored by AKI. According to analysts working for USDA, turkey production and consumption is expected to drop in 2009. In Hungary, sales of turkey intended for slaughter were 15 percent down in the first four months compared to the same period in 2008, while price was down by 2 percent. Breast fillets account for the largest part of the quantity sold in the domestic market. Sales were up by 3 percent in the first four months of the year. The grilling season will probably lead to an increase in demand and price. The USA and the EU account for over 50 percent of the global production of strawberry. Poland’s leading position in the EU has been challenged by Chinese and Moroccan imports, while the season has been delayed by cold weather in Spain and France. Production in Hungary has been growing for years.
