The future of premium beverage consumption: less, but better quality
WhiskeyNet Kft. its two founders, Kati Szatmári and Zsolt Szigeti, spoke in an interview with Pénzcentrum about the benefits of high-quality alcohol consumption and the noticeable increase in demand for premium drinks on the Hungarian market.
In their opinion, it is better to drink less of high-quality drinks than a lot of low-quality drinks. From the beginning, WhiskyNet’s goal is not only to promote sales, but also to develop a drinking culture that they believe will make quality drinks available to everyone, not just the richest.
Szigeti explained that one of the challenges of pricing is the volatile exchange rate, which they try to deal with using the advance purchase method. In addition, increased logistics costs after Brexit are also a challenge for shipments from the United Kingdom. The weakening of the forint and the effects of inflation are also felt on the market, but customers are still looking for premium drinks, even if they sometimes turn to cheaper products.
The interview revealed that in addition to the increasing competition in the retail trade, the domestic alcohol consumption culture is slowly moving in the direction of quality, which WhiskeyNet considers to be the mission. Szatmári said that the popularity of whiskey, rum and other premium drinks has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, especially during Covid, when people preferred fewer but quality drinks.
