Panic-shopping causes more trouble than the lack of goods
The COVID epidemic has severely affected several sectors of the economy, but despite assumptions, agriculture and the food industry have not stopped. In contrast, panic shopping, which can be traced more to psychological reasons, caused an immediate and spectacular problem. The real danger is not just the end consumers, but the other actors in the supply chain.
In addition to the fact that the problem is still logistical, swine fever or bird flu is causing more damage to Hungarian agriculture than the coronavirus. From a social point of view, commuting to seasonal workers and providing food to those left without income is the real challenge. At the same time, the crisis has also highlighted the need to make the Hungarian food industry more competitive and of better quality, in which large and small producers as well as legislators have an equal role and significance.
