Reduction of the thirteenth monthly pension can reduce pensioners' income down with 8 percent lower. Elderly people can save on eating primarily.

The statistics show that the pensioners purchase more meat, vegetables and bakery than the average population – states Népszabadság. Elderly people spends more on health care and medicine, but this may be less to save. The pensioners and people close to retirement, represent a major income for the retail level. Kovács Krisztina, a GfK Hungária’s retail analyst explains the greater buying power of over fifty, that they have left the problems of buying homes and childcare expenses behind. Nearly 50 percent of them are still active in the labor market so they can spend more on daily consumer goods. According to GfK’s survey of 2008, fifty-one percent of daily consumer goods retail turnover was exposed by people above fifty. This is about 1000-1500 billion HUF per year.
