A recent YouGov survey shows that nearly half of German consumers would shop online more frequently if they could receive their orders on the same day.

The study, conducted on behalf of Fleetlery between December 16 and 18, surveyed 2,123 consumers. According to the results, 45% said faster delivery would increase their willingness to buy online, Lebensmittelpraxis reports. The trend is especially strong among 25 to 34 year old respondens: one in six said they would place significantly more orders, while another 41 per cent would somewhat increase their online purchases.

The demand for fast home delivery is especially strong for pharmacy and healthcare products. Seventy‑five percent of respondents consider same‑day delivery important, and more than one‑third explicitly expect it. Interest is consistent across all age groups: both young adults and older consumers show similar levels of demand for rapid delivery. There is also significant demand for quick delivery of groceries: 57 per cent say daytime delivery is important, and this figure rises to 67 per cent among those aged 25-34.

According to Michael Kingreen, Managing Director of Fleetlery, alongside competitive pricing, delivery speed has become one of the key factors influencing purchasing decisions. He believes that traditional brick‑and‑mortar stores also have a significant opportunity if they can serve customers within a few hours; otherwise, they risk losing an important consumer segment.

When it comes to gifts, 40 per cent of respondents consider same‑day delivery important, which can be especially crucial in the period leading up to the holidays. In the categories of pet food, electronics, and household goods, 24-30 per cent assign high importance to fast delivery.

Founded in Hamburg in 2021, Fleetlery now operates with more than 4,000 couriers in 50 German cities.
