German exports fell by 1.6 percent and imports by 6.2 percent in the first half of this year
Germany’s exports and imports decreased in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year, the German statistical office Destatis announced on Monday.
German exports fell by 1.6 percent to 801.7 billion euros in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year. In the six months under review, Germany imported EUR 662.8 billion, which was 6.2 percent less than in the first six months of 2023.
Germany’s foreign trade balance showed a surplus of 138.8 billion euros in the first half of this year, 28.7 percent higher than the 107.9 billion euros a year earlier.
Germany’s most important export products were motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts, of which it exported 135.3 billion euros. Compared to the first half of last year, vehicle exports fell by 2.4 percent. Machines came in second place with a value of 109.6 billion euros, which is 4.4 percent less than a year earlier.
