German retail sales fell month-on-month in April
In Germany, retail sales fell by 1.1 percent in real terms in April on a monthly basis, after growing by 0.9 percent in March, the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, reported on Friday.
On an annual basis, retail sales growth accelerated to 2.3 percent in April from 1.3 percent in March.
Retail sales of food products fell by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis in April, but rose by 2.3 percent on an annual basis. Retail sales of non-food products fell by 1.3 percent on a monthly basis, but rose by 2.6 percent on an annual basis.
Sales in online and mail-order trade fell by 0.2 percent in April compared to the previous month and exceeded last April by 14.1 percent.
