The German sugar cartel can affect the Hungarian market as well
The Germans probably paid too much for the sweetness for a number of years. The European Commission suspects that the Nordzucker and Südzucker German sugar companies agreed in the prices by creating an illegal cartel.
These two companies jointly deliver to about 40 percent of the European market. According to the suspiction described by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, it is suspicious that the two companies agreed in the price of sugar in Germany, Hungary, Latvia and in Romania between 2004 and 2011.
