As of this year, it became possible to donate food with an expired shelf life at the EU level
They emphasized that the most basic rule is that the donation includes food purchased in legal trade, stored in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, labeled in Hungarian, in original, unopened and undamaged packaging.
It is most recommended to donate durable foods, i.e. foods marked with a shelf life, the most ideal products for this are flour, sugar, rice, cooking oil, dry pasta, canned goods, dry legumes, durable milk, chocolate, sweet and salty durable cakes – write the in a statement.
They emphasized that fresh, perishable food can cause health damage after the expiration date, so such food marked with an expired use-by date should not be donated at all.
