Inspectors from the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) conducted an inspection at a confectionery manufacturing facility before the winter holiday season. Due to the deficiencies found during the inspections that posed a serious food safety risk, the experts suspended the activities carried out at the facility with immediate effect. In addition, more than 1 ton of food was withdrawn from circulation and ordered to be placed under official quarantine.

Nébih experts revealed several serious food hygiene deficiencies during the inspection of a confectionery manufacturing company in Vas County. The floors, walls, and doors in some rooms of the unit were heavily contaminated. The entire facility was untidy, crowded, and hygienically objectionable.

In one place in the production room, the tiles on the wall were missing, and in another room the floor slab was fragmented. The floor drain was clogged in several places, and the drain holes were missing. The equipment, tools, one of the refrigerators inside and out, and the storage carts were also heavily contaminated. In one room, the door was half torn off.

The sink room and the sink were contaminated, inappropriate things (boxes, bags, clothes) were stored in the shower and locker, so they could not be used as intended. The conditions for hygienic hand washing were not ensured at some of the hand sinks. In several cases, the raw materials were stored on the floor (on cardboard) without using a pallet/basin. Furthermore, the validity of the health suitability tests of the workers there had expired.

Nébih suspended the plant’s activities with immediate effect due to the circumstances posing a serious food safety risk. The authority immediately removed 55 items, a total of 1,129 kg of untraceable and expired food from circulation, and prohibited their marketing and use. At the same time, it ordered their official seizure, and 8 items of food produced by the food enterprise were recalled from circulation. The facility was allowed to continue its operations after the complete elimination of the violations and a repeated official inspection.

During the inspection, measures were taken in relation to all infringing products. The procedure affecting the enterprises and the imposition of fines are in progress.
