70 percent of the sunflowers were harvested in Zala County
Nearly 70 percent of the sunflowers were harvested in Zala county, the average yield in the 6,000-hectare area was 2.5 tons, the county president of the National Chamber of Agricultural Economy (NAK) informed MTI.
In the 27,207-hectare corn fields, the crop was ensiled in an area exceeding 3 hectares. Krisztián Sabján said the average yield was 7.4 tons per hectare from the grain crops harvested on 4,570 hectares. He indicated that, due to the rains, they are making slow progress with the sowing of autumn ears of corn. 1200 hectares of autumn barley, 50 hectares of rye and 80 hectares of triticale were planted. According to the plans, the sowing area for winter barley is 5,200 hectares, and for rye, 500 hectares. They want to grow triticale on 950 hectares.
Farmers plan to sow spring wheat on 31,000 hectares
Rapeseed is produced on 13,635 hectares, 2-3 thousand hectares smaller than in previous years. One of the reasons for this is that the warmer, drier climate does not favor plants that prefer cooler, wetter weather. In addition, many insecticides were taken off the market, “with the current selection it is not possible to protect the crop from pests, because of this the profitability of rapeseed cultivation has also decreased”, explained the county president. The sown flocks are developing well, but we had to protect ourselves against pests, he added. He said: the rainy weather hinders both harvesting and sowing work. The producers are confident that the precipitation will be stored in the deeper layers of the soil, because this will help next year’s farming.
