At Oktoberfest in Munich, a pint of beer can cost up to HUF 5,000
Munich Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival, has started. This year it will be two days longer to coincide with German Unity Day. The prices of beer show a significant increase this year compared to last year, but millions of guests are still expected.
The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810. It was declared an annual festival in 1819, but later moved to September due to better weather. So far, he has missed 26 times, and this year’s is the 188th Oktoberfest.
The main organizer of the event is the Munich city council, but they do not determine the beer prices. Instead, the price level is calculated by comparing the prices of current city beer gardens.
Bavarian restaurateurs justified last year’s particularly high beer prices (12.60-13.80 euros per liter) with high inflation, rising wages and rising energy prices.
“Although beer prices are relatively high, fortunately they have not crossed the 14 euro limit. However, it is important that they remain affordable in the future”
Clemens Baumgärtner, the city’s economic adviser and Oktoberfest director, said last year.
The average price of beer ranges from 12.60 to 14.90 euros per liter, which means an increase of 6.1% compared to the previous year. Beer served in liter jugs is characterized by a higher alcohol content.
