MOHU is preparing for post-holiday redemption with increased capacity
MOHU is preparing for the Christmas and end-of-year periods with increased capacity this year as well, as the number of returns typically increases significantly at this time – the Mol waste management subsidiary informed MTI in a statement sent to MTI on Thursday.
More trucks, on more days, will go to stores to collect the bottles. Last year, more than 10 million bottles were returned on a single day after the Christmas holidays. MOHU is assisting stores with increased capacity, greater logistics, and more storage bags.
MOHU’s partners will collect returned beverage packaging from stores more often than normal, on December 24th and on several days thereafter, to ensure that the return process is smooth.
In the first few days after the holidays, many more bottles are typically returned, so as the holidays approach, it is worth finding out in advance about the opening hours of stores operating return machines. The REpont application can also help us plan the return; by clicking on each REpont, you can check in advance whether the return machine is working at the given location – the company recommended.
MOHU also inspected the equipment of the stores in advance and, where necessary, provided more bags and glass containers for the holiday period. The basic condition for the smooth operation of the return machines is regular, daily cleaning and regular emptying of full machines.
The return is one of Hungary’s outstanding environmental successes. Thanks to our joint attention, more and more beverage packaging is being returned to the cycle, contributing to a more sustainable future. In 2025, we have already returned around 2.8 billion bottles, cans and glass. Their waste will be sent to the appropriate place and reused, confirmed MOHU.
