MOHU collected 700 million bottles in six months
By mid-November, 700 million bottles, jars and cans had been redeemed in Hungary in the new redemption system – MOHU told MTI.
They highlighted that the waste of the redeemed bottles, jars and bottles will now be sent to an appropriate place and reused.
MOHU’s goal is to redeem at least 90 percent of beverage packaging in Hungary in three years and to eliminate illegally scattered beverage packaging from our environment. During the development of the redemption system, the MOL Group installed vending machines worth 40 billion forints throughout the country – they explained.
According to the announcement
Currently, redemption is possible in 4,400 locations in Hungary, of which about 1,400 locations are for manual redemption. The most popular redemption method is a voucher that can be purchased in a store or a store network.
Thanks to the redemption, customers have received about 30 billion forints back so far, and this may have contributed to the increase in retail turnover, they added.
A unique option in Europe for domestic vending machines is that the redemption fee can be transferred directly to your own bank account. Approximately 15-17 percent of those redeeming choose this solution, so far about 5.7 billion forints have been requested back in this form, and more than one million one hundred thousand have downloaded the necessary application, the statement said.
According to the MOHU, almost 90 million forints are the amount donated by domestic customers to the charitable – children’s health – cause indicated on the vending machines.
The most popular redemption day is clearly Saturday, with an average of about 6 million bottles redeemed on Saturdays since July. The fewest are redeemed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but the number exceeds 4 million on average on these days as well.
According to the information, not only stores, but also other businesses and institutions have applied to provide the possibility of redemption.
