52 percent of agricultural machinery investments were spent on power plants
Individual farms and corporate enterprises purchased new agricultural machinery and equipment worth 135.2 billion forints in the January-September 2024 period, which was 41 percent lower than the turnover a year earlier. In the same period, 70.1 billion forints were spent on spare parts, which is a 3 percent increase compared to the base period.
In the examined period, 66 percent of imported and domestically produced agricultural machinery and equipment sales to end users were carried out by ten distribution organizations, of which half of all agricultural machinery sales in Hungary were concentrated in the hands of the three largest machinery dealers. In the January-September 2024 period, the share of the top ten companies and the three largest enterprises decreased by 8 and 9 percentage points, respectively, compared to a year earlier. Despite the significant decline, farmers continued to spend the most money on power equipment, accounting for 52 percent of the total value of agricultural machinery investments. Of the main equipment sold, tractors accounted for 30 percent and grain combines for 10 percent.
