METRO joined Earth Hour this year for the third time
In 2009 METRO GROUP participated for the first time in the global “Earth Hour”, organized by the international environmental organization WWF, to oppose the biggest threat facing our planet: climate change.
On 26th March between the hours of 8:30-9:30 pm participants in Earth Hour turned down or off the lights and electrical equipment in their houses, offices and public buildings. This initiative was supported by 133 stores of METRO GROUP in Poland. Makro Cash & Carry units turned out the external lighting and signs on buildings, and turned down lighting in car parks by 66%, and 33% in buildings. Real hypermarkets dimmed the lighting in their stores by 33%. Media Markt and Saturn consumer electronics stores turned off electronic equipment on display (such as TV sets).
