Hungarians would trust renewable energy sources for their energy supply, according to a recent study
The Hungarian population would spend the state’s resources mostly on the development of renewable energy sources, according to a nationally representative survey commissioned by MOL.
According to a summary sent to MTI on Thursday, based on the survey, which also asked about the climate problem, 70 percent of the total population feels that climate change has a significant or some impact on their everyday lives. The higher the educational level of someone and the larger the settlement they live in, the more likely they are to perceive such an impact.
92 percent of respondents identified the development of renewable energy sources as an area to be supported. In addition, 64 percent responded that state intervention, incentive and supportive regulations are needed to spread the use of sustainable fuels.
Overall, 91 percent of respondents consider it important for energy production from renewable sources to increase in Hungary. 74 percent of respondents would support the installation of wind farms in their own municipality, and the proportion of supporters increases with educational level. 84 percent would consider the implementation of solar parks acceptable in their own municipality.
Almost 40 percent of respondents would be willing to pay a higher price for electricity from renewable sources, and the majority would accept a price increase of up to 10 percent. Every third respondent would be willing to pay more for fuels from renewable sources, although up to 10 percent more. This position is particularly characteristic of students and those with higher education.
Only 6 percent of the population feels informed about green hydrogen, and another 21 percent have heard of it. 17 percent are thoroughly familiar with biomethane, and 44 percent to some extent, but only 38 percent of respondents consider it an important future renewable energy source.
