MÁV is already preparing for the high season and the weekend on the Balaton lines
MÁV is already preparing for the high season and the weekend on the Balaton lines – wrote Zsolt Hegyi, CEO of the MÁV group, in a post published on his social media page on Friday.
He highlighted that maintenance is underway on the 30th and then 29th main lines, and they are currently working on the Székesfehérvár-Lepsény section. The track closure is part of the summer preparations to ensure a reliable, predictable schedule during the season.
He emphasized,
The aim of the complex work currently underway is to preserve the condition of the track, prevent further deterioration, eliminate the 80 kilometer per hour speed limit between Székesfehérvár and Szabadbattyán, and avoid speed restrictions.
Since good weather is expected for the weekend, they are preparing for heavy hiking and cycling traffic in the direction of Lake Balaton. Due to the expected heavy passenger traffic, he added – in addition to the usual Friday and Sunday reinforcements – he ordered additional service reinforcements.
He detailed that the Blue Wave trains will be reinforced with additional carriages, and that all trains on the Székesfehérvár-Balatonfüred route will be reinforced, thus running with double FLIRT. The CEO suggested that those wishing to cycle should travel to the northern shore of Lake Balaton, extra capacity has been prepared for this direction, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons, some trains between Budapest and Tapolca will be supplemented with separate bicycle transport cars.
He added,
This weekend, replacement buses will be operating between Székesfehérvár and Lepsény, which were closed due to the track closure, and bicycle transport cannot be ensured, so a limited number of possible bicycle transport will be provided, but with separate vehicles, and a larger replacement bus capacity will be prepared on the closed route.
The preparation of the track for high-use on the northern shore of Lake Balaton will also be completed by Easter.
MÁV announced in a statement that they are also preparing for other high-use tourist destinations in addition to Lake Balaton. The Lake Tisza express train now runs to Tiszafüred with two luggage carriages on weekends, and the trains between Debrecen and Füzesabony will also provide greater bicycle capacity.
An additional carriage suitable for transporting bicycles will be attached to the trains running on the Győr-Veszprém line crossing the Bakony. On the Vác-Diósjenő-Balassagyarmat line, which runs near the foot of Börzsöny and has recently undergone significant maintenance, every second train will receive reinforcements, increasing the possibility of transporting bicycles, MÁV informed.
