The smartphone market stagnated in the second quarter
The global smartphone market struggled to grow in the second quarter. Vendors shipped 343.3 million smartphones, a 0.3 percent increase from 342.4 million in the year-earlier period, according to IDC. That was the second straight quarter of stagnant volumes.
Samsung Electronics maintained its lead in the market, nabbing a 22.4 percent global share, compared to the 21.3 percent of the last year. Apple Inc.'s -0.12 percent share declined slightly, to 11.8 percent from 13.9 percent, while smaller Asian vendors such as Huawei, OPPO and Vivo continued to steal a larger part of the pie. (MTI)
