The volume of beef imports increased by 24 percent
Based on KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports increased by 6.2 percent in January 2024 compared to January 2023. The main partners were Kosovo, Croatia, Austria, Turkey and Albania. Hungary’s live cattle imports increased by 12.1 percent, two-thirds of the live cattle came from Denmark, Italy and Germany.

The volume of beef exports decreased by almost 8 percent and the value by 14 percent. The volume of beef imports increased by 24.7 percent and the value by about 12.4 percent in the observed period.
All prices have dropped, except for consumers
According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of young bulls was HUF 754/kilogram of split hot weight in March 2024, which decreased by 4 percent compared to the average price of the same month in 2023. The price of the slaughter heifer decreased by 10 percent, while the price of the slaughter cow did not change significantly during the examined period. According to KSH data, the consumer price of beef steak was 7 percent higher (HUF 4,640/kilogram) in March 2024 than a year earlier.
