The volume of beef exports decreased by 9 percent
According to AKI’s slaughter statistics data, cattle slaughter in January-August 2023 decreased by 10 percent compared to January-August 2022. Cows, which account for more than two-thirds of all slaughters, were slaughtered by 8.5 percent less.

Based on KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports in January-June 2023 were 1 percent below the same period in 2022. Hungary’s live cattle imports increased by 23 percent. The volume of beef exports decreased by 9 percent and the value by 7 percent.

According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of young bulls was HUF 820/kilogram of split hot weight in September 2023, a 5 percent increase compared to the average price of the same month in 2022. The price of the slaughter heifer decreased by 3 percent and the price of the slaughter cow by 19 percent during the examined period. According to KSH data, the consumer price of beef steak was 20 percent higher (HUF 4,660/kilogram) in August 2023 than a year earlier.
