Mango and popcorn ice cream are the hits of this season
The popularity of ice creams among Hungarians is unbroken, and in addition to cooling desserts with a traditional flavor, products with a special taste and texture are becoming more and more popular.
According to the overview of the National Chamber of Agriculture, consumers can also choose from a wide range of products from domestic manufacturers in addition to large, international brands. Almost 50 companies are active in the field of ice cream production in the country. Due to the weather and inflation, domestic ice cream manufacturers are predicting a 10 percent drop in sales this year, but the majority of Hungarians have not given up on the cooling treats despite the rising prices.
Although ice creams are already available all year round in the big chain stores, the real season is the summer period, so a significant part of the annual domestic consumption of around 32 million liters is realized in the warmer months. This means that every Hungarian consumes a little more than 3 liters of ice cream on average – mostly in the summer season.
Few people know that the ice creams that go to the shops do not only come to the shops from large foreign manufacturers, some of the supply comes from domestic companies, almost 50 companies deal with ice cream production in Hungary. In addition to the large-scale operation of an international company operating in our country, domestic SMEs represent the third largest confectionery manufacturing sector in our country. About 74 million liters of ice cream from domestic manufacturers are sold to the shops of the domestic and export markets every year. By the way, the largest ice cream producer in Europe is Germany, where 620 million liters of ice cream were produced last year.
