The Gellért Hotel is reopened under the management of Mandarin Oriental
The Mandarin Oriental hotel chain, which operates internationally renowned high-end hotels, will operate the Gellért Hotel in Budapest, which is expected to reopen in 2027, the BDPST Group told MTI on Wednesday.
The Gellért Hotel, owned by the BDPST Group, will undergo a full-scale, complex renovation in 2024, taking place in accordance with monument protection regulations, and it will be Mandarin Oriental’s first hotel operated in Hungary, they added.
According to the information, according to preliminary plans, 143 guest rooms, including 38 suites, will be created in the hotel with the cooperation of the London interior design studio Alexander Waterworth Interiors.
During the war damage and subsequent reconstruction, the original interior spaces of the building were practically destroyed: according to the intentions of the investor-developer, the four most iconic interior spaces – the Lobby, the Danube Room, the Music Room and the Gobelin Room – will be reconstructed in accordance with their original splendor, the based on extant photos and plans. The purpose of the investment, in addition to the complete renovation of the building, is to integrate new functions that contribute to broadening the range of available services and improving their quality, bringing back the “golden age” of the building, adding to the 21st century. century innovations, environmentally and energy-conscious elements.
