The raspberry growing area has been continuously decreasing since the turn of the millennium
According to KSH data, raspberries were grown on 1,500 hectares in Hungary at the turn of the millennium, and since then the cultivated area has been continuously decreasing. Eurostat data show that in 2022 the fruit was grown on 210 hectares, the annual yield was around 500 tons.
According to KSH data, the foreign trade balance of fresh and frozen raspberries was negative in 2022: imports of fresh raspberries (mainly from Spain) increased by 15 percent to 391 tons, while exports were not significant. In the first five months of this year, the delivery of fresh raspberries decreased by 13 percent to 95.2 tons compared to the same period last year. KSH data show that imports of frozen raspberries fell by 26 percent to 1.71 thousand tons, and exports by 9 percent to 592 tons in 2022 compared to the previous year. In the first five months of this year, the import of frozen raspberries decreased by 5 percent to 508 tons, and the export decreased by 27 percent to 176 tons compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the data of AKI PÁIR, domestic raspberries appeared in the Budapest Wholesale Market in the 21st week. The producer price of raspberries increased by 20 percent to HUF 3,047/kg 2023 21–30. per week compared to the same period of the previous year.
