Religious tourism in Hungary is at the forefront of Europe
Looking at the countries of the European Union, we can say that religious tourism in Hungary and its offer are at the forefront of Europe, despite the devastation experienced throughout history – said Lőrinc Nacsa, ministerial commissioner responsible for religious tourism, on Tuesday in Mátraverebély-Szentkút, Nógrád County, III. National Religious Tourism Forum.
The Christian Democrat politician emphasized: it is worth being proud of, not only because we have old places, because we think that these places carry value, but also because tourists visiting there can meet communities living in most of these places.
This is our biggest competitive advantage, that there is a community living in our places, in our assets
Lőrinc Nacsa added.
The ministerial commissioner called it gratifying that the government of Hungary gives special support to the field of religious tourism every year.
Few countries can say that an organizational unit in the government is responsible for ensuring that the relationship between religious tourism sites and the state, as well as state and church bodies, runs as smooth and smoothly as possible, he said, adding: we should be proud of this as well.
Lőrinc Nacsa pointed out that thanks to this, they were able to give grants, organize events, professional days, and trainings in the past year, and from September, they will be able to start religious tourism training at the Károly Eszterházy Catholic University in Eger, for the first time in the country.
He also spoke about: modern, experience-based tourism and the presentation of eternal values must be treated as a unit, “but we must always remain in the message of eternal life, eternal values, we must always be able to remain on the ground that made religious tourism in Hungary solid”.
He added that there are metrics – ticket sales, number of visitors, income, guest nights – but the most important thing is whether the visitor leaves with a richer spiritual and emotional experience.
