At the 2024 Carpathian Basin Donation Ceremony of the Foundation for the Support of Youth Living in State Care and at Risk (ÁGOTA) in Bács-Kiskun County, at the event venue of the Bread of the Hungarians – 15 million grains of wheat charity initiative in ÁGOTA Falva, István Nagy said: this initiative is a thanksgiving to farmers, on the one hand, because they are alive, but also because they had the strength to do the manual labor and this has yielded results; thanksgiving also because they can see the grateful gaze of those to whom they give their offerings. The Minister of Agriculture emphasized: the strength of Hungarian farmers also provides a solid background for the Hungarian Bread program, since only those who have something to give can help others, but without the goodwill that is manifested in this program by the farmers, the results would remain just cold numbers – he said. He said that with the involvement of the Hungarian Farmers’ Association and Farmers’ Cooperatives (Magosz), the spirit of the program was fulfilled by the fact that Hungarians beyond the border are also represented in the joint work. He emphasized: Hungarian farmers were united by the idea of solidarity, and the amount of donated produce increased a hundredfold in more than a decade. According to István Nagy, the noble idea of the selfless, helpful cooperation of the Carpathian Basin farming community has now grown into one of the most significant, national-level charitable initiatives that mobilizes the widest masses. “Through this program, we bear witness to our love for Hungarian culture as well as our respect for our traditions, our selfless willingness to help, and the abundance of goodwill that sends the message year after year that we are not alone, that we can count on each other,” he said. The Minister of Agriculture said that 1,100 tons of wheat were collected, and despite the drought, the amount of donated wheat increased, which also shows “the added value of Hungarian farmers and the rural resilience.” He added that this year too, they were able to help with vegetable donations, computer equipment, seeds, and financial support.
