Thirty percent of the Hungarian fruit and vegetable exports would be transported to Russia
The Hungarian producers would like to transport 30 percent of the Hungarian fruit and vegetable sector’s export to Russia by 2020; therefore the Russian embargo has extremely negative effect on the on the fruit and vegetable market – the president of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organisation (FruitVeB) told MTI.
According to Mártonffy Béla it is true that now only 5 percent of the Hungarian fruit and vegetable exports are headed to Russia, but the sector's development strategy until 2020 is based on the increase of sales in the Russian market.
He reminded that Hungary exports half of the annual production of 2.5 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables. The roducers want to increase this amount by an additional 1 million tonnes, of which 50-70 percent are to be sold abroad, mainly in Russia. (MTI)
